Dovetail Fiction, the YA arm of the book packager Working Partners, seeks a part-time developmental editor to conceive of, develop, and edit young adult novels. This is a two-day a week job (Monday and Thursday) and you’d be working remotely.

Who are are:
We’re a growing team of writer-editors who are in touch throughout the work day. This job is very collaborative and highly creative. We’re excited about what we do and have a lot of fun doing it! As a book packager, we develop ideas for books, find writers to write them, and remain involved after a publisher acquires the project.

Who we’re looking for:
A highly creative editor with knowledge of and interest in YA fiction. Maybe you’re a full-time editor at a publishing house, and are ready to take the leap to freelance but also want the stability of a steady paycheck. Maybe you’re a freelance editor but miss having coworkers. You’re definitely self-driven, detail oriented, and conscientious. You’re highly creative, and passionate about books and ideas.

Primary Responsibilities:
*Coming up with ideas for and plotting young adult novels
*Writing book proposals and chapter outlines
*Finding authors and guiding them through the audition process
*Editing books/writing editorial letters
*Line editing
*Attending development and brainstorming meetings remotely

*At least 3 years book editing experience
*Ability to work independently
*Strong writing skills
*Knowledge of and interest in the YA commercial fiction market
*BA or BS
*A background in IP development a plus
*Living close to NYC a plus but not required
