This position offers the opportunity to work with the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media Lifestyle list. The Production Editor will work on-site in our New York office and manage the editorial production process of cookbooks, illustrated nonfiction, and other lifestyle titles. Working closely with editors, managing editorial team, designers, and other production staff, the production editor acts as project manager for assigned titles, overseeing production workflow, and setting and maintaining schedules that enable titles to be published by established dates. Will copy edit and/or proofread interiors and covers; track titles in the title management system and maintain metadata; hire freelance support as needed; and perform other editorial and pre-production tasks (file cleanup, proof-checking, entering edits, collating, preparing PDFs, supporting managing editor, and other tasks as assigned). Finalists will be asked for a sample of their work.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree

At least three years of strong experience copy editing and proofreading, ideally including experience with cookbooks and/or illustrated books

Knowledge of electronic editing, including use of Track Changes in Word and PDF markup

Great communication, time management, and organization skills

Ability to work well with tight deadlines and changing priorities

Experience with InDesign a plus
