Immediate Job Opening:

The New Press seeks a Publicist to join our marketing team; this is a regular full-time position. This person will develop the best possible publicity and outreach campaigns for New Press books and authors, lead some of our innovative social media strategies, and partner with our development team on special initiatives. The person in this position is a key member of The New Press publicity and marketing team reporting to the department director, responsible for getting the broadest possible attention for our distinguished and groundbreaking list.

Responsibilities

*Extensive contact with authors (and organizations with which they are affiliated) as well as with major TV, radio, online and print and book review media is required
*Respond to media queries and represent the New Press and its mission in external media and bookseller meetings
*Writing press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, quote sheets, etc.
*Coordinating travel and other arrangements for author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaigns
*Performing online research to acquire publicity contacts and assisting with all social media platforms, leading our Instagram
*Monitoring book awards and completing monthly submissions
*Compiling reports to the Board
*Managing Publicity and Marketing intern
*The ideal candidate will have qualifications and experience as follows:

*Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience doing similar work with a proven track record and excellent references
*Candidates should be exceptionally well organized, detail oriented, able to juggle multiple projects and priorities, have initiative, and respond well to working under the pressure of deadlines
*S/he should also have the ability to work both independently as well as with a team and have a love of publishing and an interest in *The New Press list and mission. Knowledge of progressive media a plus
*Knowledge of Cision, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus
*Bachelor’s degree required
*Must have excellent oral and written skills and have excellent references
