Requirements:
Berghahn Books is seeking a Sales and Marketing Assistant for its DUMBO-based books division. We are a busy scholarly press, and the position requires a responsible person who can handle multiple tasks in a small-firm environment with minimal supervision. Excellent administrative and organizational abilities, communication skills, as well as the ability to focus clearly on details are required.

Responsibilities include:
• Assisting in the execution of marketing plans and providing author support;
• Supporting course adoption activities, including processing exam copy requests and carrying out textbook adoptions follow ups;
• Executing email marketing campaigns and contributing to social media initiatives;
• Providing support for online promotions and their integration with print promotions;
• Compiling marketing results data and usage statistics for analysis;
• Conducting conference research and assisting in preparing and sending requisite materials;
• Updating marketing materials, such as postcards, flyers, and catalogs when necessary;
• Handling inquiries received in the NY office from authors/customers/bookstores;
• Helping in any other aspects of marketing as needed.

As an independent press, this position will offer a great opportunity to learn many facets of the publishing process while putting you at the forefront of the latest marketing strategies in the scholarly publishing space.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;
• An interest in scholarly publishing is valuable and a background in social sciences or the humanities a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and a good command of English grammar and spelling as well as proficiency in Word processing applications and Excel are vital.
• Knowledge of Constant Contact and Social Media interfaces as well as basic desktop publishing skills, such as familiarity with InDesign, are also important for the job.
