We are currently seeking an Editorial Director to lead the Ecco imprint.

Ecco was born as an independent press in 1971, and in 1999 became an imprint of HarperCollins. Today Ecco’s list ranges from literary fiction and general nonfiction to poetry, cookbooks, and literature in translation, by authors including Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and National Book Award recipients, among others, such as Czeslaw Milosz, Richard Ford, Russell Banks, Joyce Carol Oates, Patti Smith, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Haigh, Dennis Lehane, Robert Hass, John Ashbery, Charles Simic, Charles Bukowski, Anthony Bourdain, Wylie Dufresne, Paul Bowles, Leonard Cohen, William T. Vollmann, Cynthia Sweeney, and Amy Tan.

Responsibilities:
- Creates and executes overall strategy for the imprint.
- Acquires lead-level titles with critical and bestselling potential, and edits manuscripts for publication.
- Shepherds manuscripts through production process and oversees all aspects of the publication process, including working with design to create marketable packages and with the marketing group to develop marketing plans.
- Works directly with authors, agents, and all in-house departments.
- Oversees fact sheet, jacket, and catalog copy; reviews marketing material.
- Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of p&ls.
- Presents titles at various sales meetings.
- Negotiates contracts with agents.
- Supervises junior team member.

Qualifications:
- Minimum 8-10 years of relevant editorial experience
- Acquisition and publication of multiple profitable and/or critically viable projects
- Excellent negotiation skills and strong presentation skills
- Established relationships with relevant agents and industry colleagues
- Extensive experience reviewing contracts
- Strong understanding and awareness of general marketplace and relevant market segments within industry
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office
