Requirements:
Princeton University Press (PUP) seeks an experienced Contracts Manager who is a skilled-negotiator and multi-tasker, and has an interest in books, academia and publishing. The Contracts Manager is responsible for all IP contracts, provides in-house contracts support to Press staff under the supervision of the Director of Rights, Contracts, and Permissions, and assesses IP status of Press titles and products on an as-needed basis. The Contracts Manager actively works cross-departmentally to ensure long-term viability of all the Press’s IP assets, making sure that these are appropriately and systematically recorded in the Press’s title management system, Biblio.

Responsibilities include:
• Negotiate and administer all third-party author contracts involving agents, publishers, and other institutions to maintain consistency of terms.
• Create or assist in the creation of new author or product-related contract templates to meet evolving business needs and opportunities.
• Provide general research and educational support relating to author, series, subrights, special product (i.e. apps), legacy agreements, and other types of contracts that impact the intellectual property and business needs of the Press.
• Coordinate reversion notices from authors and licensing publishers to avoid Press breach of contract, in consultation with the Sales and Editorial Departments.
• Organize regular review of all Press contracts to ensure currency.
• Supervise business relationship with the Press’s piracy prevention service and provide quarterly reports to convey trends of illegal activity to appropriate Press departments.
• Maintain a knowledge of publishing industry best practices for contracts and IP legislation and provide advice on their relevance to the Press’s publishing program and strategy.
• Attend regular acquisitions contract meetings with other departments to offer insight on contractual terms.
• Offer assistance to PUP authors and all departments for contractual matters on a needed basis.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
• Minimum of 2 years professional experience in publishing preferred.
• Combination of relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements.
• Experience working with contracts preferred.
• Ability to analyze and negotiate contracts.
• Knowledge of copyright law and publishing processes.
• Ability to work diplomatically with internal and external entities.
• Must possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and multitask.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to solve problems.
• Knowledge of Access, Word, Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Experience with Biblio a plus.
