Job Description

Title: Adoption Sales Manager, North America

Reporting to the US Sales Director, the Adoption Sales Manager will manage a team of four adoption sales representatives driving sales of Print and Electronic textbooks in North America, work to expand on the existing customer base, achieve or exceed sales targets, develop new opportunities for Inclusive Access arrangements and collaborate closely cross-divisionally and with marketing to effectively build brand awareness and provide relevant market feedback. The Adoption Sales Manager will also work closely with the US Sales Director in establishing a data driven channel-based strategy, will serve on internal committees dedicated to issues highly relevant to adoption sales and the evolving textbook market, pricing, and campaign planning. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the textbook adoption marketplace and the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, ensuring optimal presentation of our textbook list across a range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences with a focus on fashion and interior design, including those published under our market leading Fairchild Books imprint.


• Meet/exceed sales targets as set by management and contribute to budget and forecasting
• Effectively manage a team of adoption sales representatives, guiding and tracking daily activities, helping them develop and expand their existing skill set, providing training, and ensuring they have all of the tools necessary to successfully achieve their targets
• Use Salesforce data and reporting that drives the direction of sales and ensures all opportunities are pursued
• Help adoption team provide solutions to customer issues in a timely manner and liaise with customer support as needed
• Provide regular and timely feedback on sales and sales trends, including MTD and YTD sales, sales pipeline, and opportunities
• Actively participate in weekly publishing meeting, as well as any other required meetings, providing feedback on textbook proposals, including adoption potential, pricing, and ancillaries.
• Set and track sales targets for each individual member of the adoption sales team, ensuring alignment with company objectives, and monitor sales metrics and key performance indicators
• Suggest actions to improve sales performance and identify opportunities for growth
• Liaise with third party textbook platform providers ensuring all textbooks are available and seek out and help negotiate new agreements as presented
• Accompany adoption sales representatives on campus visits within assigned sales territory and represent Bloomsbury at relevant academic conferences
• Consistently improve list knowledge and occasionally present new titles at sales conference
• Work closely with other internal departments on development and implementation of strategies in relevant sales areas including new textbook models, pricing, and inclusive access arrangements

Requirements + Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• 8+ years experience in adoption sales with quantifiable success, 2+ years sales management preferred
• Experience of selling textbooks to college instructors and an extensive set of contacts highly desirable
• Team building skill, including ability to motivate a sales team to achieve aggressive growth targets
• Hands on experience in sales and an ability to deliver excellent customer experience
• Knowledge of preferred and MS Office (MS Excel in particular)
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Entrepreneurial attitude with a focus on problem-solving
• Ability to travel up to 20% (once travel resumes)


Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home until further notice. Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT , or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office full-time when the office re-opens.
