Independent Publishers Group (IPG) is looking for an experienced Vice President of Marketing and Publicity to oversee the company’s Marketing and Publicity teams. This position is responsible for developing corporate branding, marketing, and publicity strategies. The position involves working closely with the Marketing and Publicity teams, the business divisions of IPG, and a large number, and wide variety, of publisher clients.
The ideal candidate has a solid Marketing or Publicity background in publishing with an ability to set priorities and create comprehensive marketing and publicity plans for the overall list and by division, and has work experience managing large teams.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Develop overall marketing and publicity strategies and priorities both short term as well as long term; inclusive of planning, budgeting, and overall implementation
• Manage marketing directors and publicity manager and assign priorities for IPG internal imprints and client publishers.
• Work with Sales teams to designate sales priorities and deliver marketing efforts to achieve business objectives.
• Strategize directly with senior management on corporate publicity initiatives across all IPG programs and carry out plans each season.
• Set budget and priorities for all advertising and promotion activities.
• Oversee IPG’s trade show and conference presence throughout the year.
• Assess current marketing and publicity strategies and processes to grow the offerings and capabilities of IPG.
• Manage all employees of the department and conduct ongoing performance management.

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or related field.
• Eight (8) years of experience in marketing and publicity within the Publishing industry specifically in promoting print, ebooks, and audiobooks is required.
• Superior communication skills that reflect the high standard of IPG.
• 5 years' experience in a supervisory role.
• Must be based in Chicago, IL or willing to relocate.
• Excellent analytical and project management skills.
• Strategic mindset.
• An effective communicator, relationship-builder and connector, with a passion for books, book trends, and news content.
• A keen knowledge of media—national, digital, print, and social—is essential.
• Physical abilities: Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time in an office environment.
• Travel requirements: 5% domestic travel may be required.
