The Experiment seeks an associate editor or editor to solicit, evaluate, acquire, and edit practical (mainly) nonfiction books, especially in the areas of healthy eating, and with a focus particularly on vegan/vegetarian, gluten-free, and special diets; health and wellness; psychology, personal development, and relationships; and memoir.

The senior editor will also have primary responsibility for every aspect of his/her books: initial positioning, writing all copy, presenting new titles at our distributor Workman Publishing's sales conferences, and closely collaborating with colleagues across publicity/marketing, managing editorial, production, finance, and sales.

This position is an opportunity to make a major impact at a successful, enterprising, 10-year-old independently owned publishing company, focused on publishing editorially distinguished books that speak to broad audiences, and warrant long shelf lives, across all of our subjects.

We seek someone who is highly detailed oriented, an unceasing initiative-taker and problem solver, extremely curious and attuned to current trends, is happy to work both independently and collaboratively, and who has superlative written and verbal communication skills.

We require knowledge of and at least two full years of experience acquiring and editing in several of the subject areas noted above, who has experience initiating projects directly with authors, as well as working with agents and foreign publishers. Reading knowledge of languages other than English (especially German and French) is not required but is a plus.

Founded in 2008, and with our first titles published in 2009, The Experiment now has a +200-title-strong list encompassing a wide range of practical and narrative nonfiction, including books on popular science and nature, creativity and puzzles, food and cooking (with most of our books in these areas having a healthful focus), biography and some history (including prehistory), health and wellness, psychology and personal development, parenting, relationships, and sexuality.
