The Entertainment Publishing Group at Chronicle Books is looking for a senior editor who will further our mission to cultivate exceptional publishing that is instantly recognizable for its spirit and creativity – a passionate editor to originate a visual nonfiction list that resonates with consumers and increases our marketplace reach. This editor should come with vibrant ideas, commercial instincts, a collaborative point of view, strong publishing relationships, and a clear vision for what makes a book worthy of reading and sharing.

• Originate, acquire, and develop 12-14 high-profile titles in key areas of the list—notably, pop culture, media tie-ins, and visual nonfiction.
• Monitor marketplace trends; determine how best to publish for the final consumer.
• Develop and manage categories to enhance commercial success and growth in revenue, profitability, and reputation.
• Work with authors, artists, licensors, designers, overseas publishers, and packagers to develop the best possible titles.
• Negotiate deals and maintain relationships with authors, agents, licensors, packagers, overseas publishers, and other publishing industry professionals.
• Guide titles through the publishing process by collaborating with design, production, and sales + marketing.
• Work alongside publishing group members to exceed goals with publishing that is not only profitable but also in the vanguard for the category.
• Advocate for innovative publishing within the publishing group, with a particular emphasis on developing bestsellers.

• Attend various meetings, such as publishing group meeting, departmental meetings, launch, sales conference, transmittals, and other ad hoc meetings.
• Attend/work trade shows as required.

• At least 5 years of acquisitions and project editor experience at a trade publishing house.
• Deep contacts in the publishing and pop culture world.
• Demonstrated ability to acquire, develop, position, and edit a full list of strong performing books.
• Strongly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as in a creative team.
