SUMMARY:

Quercus US is looking for a dynamic, ambitious Marketing/Publicity Director to head up the team in their New York offices. Working with the Hachette UK team, and leading the NY team, you will be responsible for helping to mold and grow the list, bringing marketing and publicity expertise, as well an excellent understanding of the US publishing landscape, to Quercus US. You will be motivated and inspired by the dynamic nature of eBook and audio book marketing and keen to exploit the opportunities in the market place, with digitally savvy promotion. As a highly-motivated self-starter, you will relish the breadth of the role and the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of publishing, as well as having exceptional marketing, and particularly digital marketing, skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee all aspects of marketing, promotions and publicity for the Quercus US list
Work with Hachette UK publishers to bring the best of the Hachette UK books on to the Quercus US list, ensuring that there is a clear market and publishing strategy for each book
Work with the HGB digital team to create innovative and effective eBook launches, looking for eBook opportunities and trends to capitalize on
Ensuring excellent and constantly updated metadata for all titles and particularly for Quercus US’s eBook-focused list
Grow Quercus US’s audio sales, ensuring their inclusion in all marketing and promotional plans
Work with the Hachette UK team to simultaneously launch books – in eBook, audio and physical on both lists ensuring a coordinated approach to publication.
Work with the Sales Director to position titles on the list and agree on appropriate sales and promotions plans
Work with the Publishing Manager to ensure appropriate editorial changes are made to Quercus US editions
Responsible for the Marketing and Consumer Promotions budgets, ensuring that all spend is accountable, effective and appropriate, and that the total promotional spend at year end is within the targeted percentage of profit
Represent Quercus US in meetings with authors, literary agents, customers and other third parties as required
Manage the Quercus US team, to ensure that all their work delivers against agreed, clearly communicated strategy, within budget and to tight deadlines
Keep abreast of new developments and opportunities in the marketing arena including digital, with a specific eye to effective innovation in Quercus’s marketing campaigns
Work closely with the digital sales team to support key price promotion and drive additional revenue for the business and reporting on ROI

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

At least seven years’ prior book publishing publicity or marketing experience
Awareness and understanding of the book publishing market
Full range of marketing experience across all the main marketing disciplines, including possessing a strong background in digital marketing and eBook marketing
Experience managing staff effectively
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through
Ability to drive change and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriate
