Full Time
New York, NY
We are seeking an experienced project editor to project manage our award-winning food titles. Based in our New York City office, and working closely with the Executive Commissioning Editor; the successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of book creation, through manuscript and photo delivery, to the file handover to the production department and subsequent checking. This will include assessing text and images, editing, managing budgets, creating schedules and seasonal materials (fact sheets, catalogue copy) as well as booking and supervising freelancers, designers, photographers, food stylists, copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers. You will be part of a New York-London Editorial group, liaising extensively with chefs, photographers, food stylists, editors, authors, and designers worldwide, and with Phaidon's production team in both the UK and the US. You will work on a mixture of high-end chef titles, restaurant cookbooks, home cooking books, and food reference.

This is an exciting opportunity for a project editor who holds excellent project management experience in publishing and/or the food world—including line editing (recipes and narrative), copy writing, budget management, and InDesign skills; dedication to excellence, accuracy, detail, and organization; strong communication skills (in-person, email, phone, and video calls); and talent for building and maintaining relationships with chefs, food writers, and freelancers. A demonstrable passion for food and book publishing is essential.
