Job Description

We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic full-time associate for our Foreign Rights Department. In addition to the associate, the department includes two co-directors and an assistant.

The job provides a close-up view and a concrete understanding of the business of selling book rights overseas. Daily tasks involve vetting foreign contracts, communicating with foreign co-agents about the progress of publication deals, and corresponding with authors. The job will also involve assisting with foreign submissions, overseeing the creation of InkWell’s foreign rights guides and the monthly foreign rights newsletter. The associate will have support from the assistant with mailing and tracking of contracts, filing tax forms with the IRS on behalf of clients, and following up on advance and royalty payments from foreign countries.

Job Qualifications

Applicants must be articulate, personable, and hold a high level of interest in the publishing field, as well as in foreign rights. Prior foreign rights experience is preferred.

Attention to detail is a must, as is interest in parsing the formal business and legal terms, both major and minor, under which authors and publishers agree to work with one another. Applicants should be motivated, highly organized, tech-savvy, and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The position requires someone who is very systematic, and able to prioritize and see a task to completion without being distracted. Advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office and online resources are essential. The associate must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
