Job Summary:
Disney Hyperion publishes original trade picture books and novels, including the best-selling Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems , The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan, and The Darkest Minds Series by Alexandra Bracken.

The Sr. Designer will offer unique design solutions. They will work on original picture books, middle grade and young adult fiction and nonfiction books. They will collaborate with editors, illustrators, freelancers and other departments.

• Book jacket and interior design from concept to final book
• Reading manuscripts to identify key story elements, characters, themes and genre for cover inspiration
• Presenting designs and ideas to art directors, editors, sales and marketing colleagues for review and feedback
• Communicating instructions and comments to illustrators or photographers
• Making changes and corrections to Creative Suite files and preparing final files to send to the printer
• Reviewing proofs for color reproduction instruction with our production department
• Negotiating contracts with illustrators, photographers, and handletterers, etc.

Basic Qualifications:
• 5-8 years book design experience
• Proven talent in creating innovative book design, application of typography, layout, color.
• Solid computer design skills: mastery of Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to juggle many projects simultaneously
• Strong written and oral communication styles; ability to present design ideas in weekly cover meetings
• Knowledge of print production with solid digital production skills

Required Education
• BFA in Graphic Design or equivalent professional experience
