Full Time
New York, NY
Our three imprints, Catapult / Counterpoint Press / Soft Skull Press, are looking for a well-read, passionate, highly organized individual with the communication and system-building skills to support our publicity initiatives as a Publicity Manager. All three imprints have distinct personalities, and together reflect an impactful publishing history. And since our merger in 2016, we have won or been nominated for literary awards including the PEN/Faulkner, NBCC Critics Award, the National Book Award, the Man Booker Prize, and many more.

The ideal candidate will have at least four years of publicity experience, preferably with a trade book publisher focusing on high-quality fiction and narrative nonfiction; media contacts and familiarity with both major, niche, and social media outlets; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a proven ability to juggle projects and duties; demonstrated organizational skills along with creativity; a passion for books and reading; and knowledge of the contemporary literary world. We are looking for candidates who enjoy networking with the media, representing our three imprints at industry-related events, and sharing their love for the books they are working on (and the ones they're reading for fun!).

People of color, LGBTQIA people, and disabled people are strongly encouraged to apply. This Publicity Manager position is based in our New York City office, and will also contribute to event/festival planning in collaboration with our Events Coordinator. The role will report directly to Megan Fishmann, (Associate Publisher, Director of Publicity), who is based in our Berkeley, CA office.

- Design and execute targeted media and event campaigns for A-list literary fiction, crime, and non-fiction titles, including narrative non-fiction, biography, current events, travel, politics, environment and memoirs (approx. 16-20 titles per year)
- Create media lists and maintain publicity databases (knowledge of Cision/Meltwater always a plus; familiarity with Google Drive a must!)
- Develop tailored press materials (including galley letters, press releases, author praise sheets, email pitches, and jacket copy) while overseeing review copy mailings, maintaining diligent follow-up via email and phone, and tracking all outreach in a database
- Analyze and report on efficacy of PR outreach in weekly meetings
- Attend industry conferences/conventions/festivals, author events and in-person media meetings
- Build relationships with and liaise directly with media, booksellers, librarians, and social/cultural influencers
- Contribute creative ideas and new approaches to book publicity when appropriate

Proficiencies in any/all of the following are preferred: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign specifically), Teamwork and/or Basecamp, Meltwater and/or Cision, Google Drive, basic HTML coding, Microsoft Office, Mailchimp.
