Weldon Owen, an imprint of Bonnier Publishing USA, is seeking a creative, organized, and acquistions-minded senior editor to join the editorial team in our San Francisco office to help develop, edit, and produce high-quality lifestyles books and other visually driven titles.

The right person will be able to identify hot new trends or brainstorm a new twist on an old topic, find the blogger, brand, or writer who exemplifies it, plan the perfect book for the market, and shepherd it through production.

Our books are heavily illustrated and design-intensive. They generally have a brand association, whether that’s a consumer brand, media property, popular blog or Instagram, or an author with a strong platform and major social media presence.

The ideal candidate will have existing connections with literary agents and/or content creators, or the drive to find those connections. Be prepared to talk about new book and product ideas in an interview, and how you’d pursue them.

The editor will acquire and/or develop a number of titles each season, and manage them from contracting through editing, design, photography, and color proofing. They’ll work closely with copyeditors, proofreaders, art director, illustrators and photographers, indexers, and prepress, and assist with sales and marketing materials.

What You'll Be Doing:

*Acquiring and developing multiple book concepts per season
*Handling author and brand relations
*Liaising with copyeditors and proofreaders, line editing and entering of corrections in InDesign. Copyfitting text in InDesign.
*Working closely with design team to determine art needs. Reviewing storyboards, illustrations, and photographs for accuracy; scheduling and attending photoshoots as necessary.
*Chairing weekly or fortnightly team meetings and helping all team-members prioritize and problem-solve.
*Writing cover and other marketing copy, assisting with sales materials.

What You'll Bring to the Table:

*Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
*5+ years book editorial experience
*Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
*Broad knowledge of Lifestyles topics (practical nonfiction specializing in but not limited to pop culture, fitness, media/gaming, crafts, home & garden). Particular knowledge of home, garden, fashion, and beauty topics is a plus.
*Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and InDesign
*Excellent Web research skills
*Strong and versatile writing abilities
*Knack for spotting trends and extrapolating them into book ideas
*Great communication and client-management skills
*A strong visual sense
