The Publicity and Communications Manager will oversee public relations efforts for Harvard Business Review Press, the book division of HBR, and will be responsible for publicity and social media campaigns for Press books and authors. This position works closely with marketing, sales, editorial, and international teams to continuously innovate the program based on reader needs and a changing media landscape; and to continue to open new channels for awareness and sales of Press products and ideas.

Additionally, as part of the HBR Group, the Publicity and Communications Manager collaborates with other members of HBRG (marketing, communications, social media, editorial) to generate awareness for company initiatives including events, new products, industry news, and more as needed.

The Publicity and Communications Manager brings an analytical mindset to campaigns and regularly reports on the reach of activities and the impact that media coverage has on sales and awareness.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and execute high-level book campaigns to drive awareness of Press books and authors
• Responsible for growing HBR's proactive media outreach program – including cultivating top-tier journalist relationships, strengthening existing relationships, and identifying new influencers
• Regularly pitch and secure high-level coverage in top business, management, and mainstream media (print, online, broadcast)
• Work with Marketing and Communications Director to hire freelance publicists and manage execution of PR campaigns
• Identify and secure authors for cornerstone industry events and conferences throughout the year
• Responsible for PR operational activities including database management and vendor partnerships
• Research and maintain events calendar for HBR authors and editors, with an eye towards an increased presence at high profile, thought leadership events like SXSW, TED, and others
• Lead all social media campaigns for Press books; partner with authors and authors' organizations to maximize reach
• Measure and communicate the impact of media outreach and social media campaigns on overall marketing and publicity efforts
• Collaborate with Assistant Director of Communications for HBR on cross-platform opportunities including events and new product initiatives--to raise awareness for leading ideas coming out of HBR

Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree required in either Public relations, journalism, communications, or English
• 5 years experience working in a public relations, communications, or publicity function
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, research, and writing skills
• Proven experience securing media coverage in print, online, and broadcast for products, content, thought-leaders, or company news
• Experience using social media to drive awareness for consumers
