Chronicle Books is looking for a Children's Marketing Manager to work with the Director of Marketing, Children’s to provide overall strategic direction for Chronicle Books’ Children’s Marketing Department. This role is responsible for creating and implementing marketing plans to build sales, increase profitability and enhance our visibility in the marketplace and to develop Chronicle Books as a market leader in children’s publishing. Keys to success include an astute use of resources and constant focus on increased sales, revenue, market-share and profitability. The Children’s Marketing Manager will work closely and effectively with the Children’s Pub Group to develop the list, communicate with sales, and provide marketing expertise throughout the publication process.

• Responsible for working closely with Children’s Pub Group, Sales and Publicity to achieve goals.
• Work closely with editors to understand and contribute to their ideas and vision for their titles, and to keep them informed on marketing efforts.
• With Director of Marketing, Children’s and other team members, develop and implement annual long-term marketing and publicity strategy for Children’s publishing group in all market channels.
• Continually assess and evaluate Children’s marketing initiatives and methods with team ensuring resources are utilized in the most effective manner.
• Communicate regularly with Sales/Marketing and the Children’s publishing group on the retail marketplace, trends, and challenges to position the objectives of the Children’s list to drive and improve sales.
• Partner with other key Marketing staff, especially in the Lifestyle pub group on their parenting and family-friendly titles, to ensure integrated marketing and publicity efforts.
• Develop, create, and execute marketing plans and materials that are creative, revenue-enhancing, both consumer or market oriented and reflective of both title and house. This includes sell-in materials, trade and consumer outreach, print and online advertising, and promotional giveaways.
• Work with the Director of Marketing, Children’s to determine and administer CH marketing budget annually.
• Help plan and staff select aspects of Chronicle’s children’s presence at various conventions including overseeing the creation of effective and appropriate trade show materials.
• Set strategy for Children’s publishing outreach including entertaining, seasonal preview events, and ongoing contact with key industry members (including consumers, booksellers, educators/librarians, and contacts at other publishing houses).
• Manage marketing efforts on the Chronicle website and blog and collaborate with the online marketing team on creative and effective online marketing strategies for key Children’s titles, especially in regards to our picture book list and growing middle-grade and young adult list.
• Manage marketing efforts on programs such as NetGalley and Edelweiss.
• Build strong relationships with Sales Managers to understand their accounts and to achieve overall list goals. Some visits to accounts may be required.
• Proactively reach out to like-minded companies in an effort to secure marketing partnerships for specific titles and or the company/brand as a whole.
• Read and review manuscripts and other project materials as requested.

Strong project management and motivational ability, an ability to collaborate with cross-functional personnel (sales, publicity, editorial, design), skill at generating ideas, a high creativity level, ability to handle multiple projects, and keen communication skills are necessary. Requires 3-5 years of experience in children’s book publishing-related marketing.
