The Editor is responsible for acquiring, editing, and managing projects for Running Press Kids with an emphasis in the areas of non-fiction and licenses: including young adult and middle grade nonfiction standalones and series, and activity and novelty.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read and evaluate submissions
Effectively coordinate all phases of the editorial process, including directing author’s revisions, line-editing, and writing promotional copy and fact sheets for 15-20 titles yearly
Develop relationships with and communicate with authors, agents, licensors, and freelancers
Brainstorm and collaborate with Editorial Director, Creative Director, and others about books to be created in-house and execute the development of homegrown projects
Work with the Editorial Director as well as the Licensing Director to acquire new licenses for the imprint as well as to apply existing licenses to existing formats
Present projects in key sales meetings
Maintain schedules and manage multiple projects independently
Collaborate with key departments including Legal, Copyediting, Managing Editor, Design, Production, and Sales
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
3-5 years book publishing experience, with a background in editing and acquiring kids books
Strong writing, analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to creatively develop projects from brainstorming
Experience working on nonfiction and illustrated books preferred
Must have established contacts in the industry and an ability to manage projects independently
