Summary : The Quarto Group, the leading global illustrated book publisher and distributor, is seeking an Editorial Director to manage all publishing processes, including but not limited to: list development, budgeting, acquisitions, creating P&Ls, and the coordination of new projects, through product release and shipping as a part of the becker&mayer! division. This role will be located in the Seattle area office location.
The key responsibilities for this role are:
Oversee the design, editing and production of a wide range of enthusiast books and products.
Formulating and managing seasonal publishing lists.
Developing and managing book budgets and department budgets.
Directs trade book acquisitions forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly.
Supervises the negotiation of new publishing agreements ensuring group quotas, gross margins, contribution margins, net operating income, ect. standards are met.
Act as a liaison between authors and editors, freelancers, and different departments within the company.
Actively acquire a limited number of A-list titles.
Analyze and evaluate assigned markets, identifying growth opportunities.
Coordinate and supervise market research studies which verify the accuracy and appropriateness of the publishing program.
Traffic projects through all stages of editorial and production and coordinate the process with the authors.
Work closely with sales and marketing to ensure strategic planning and scheduling of new items.
Recommend initial printings, reprints and price adjustments which will maximize gross profit.
Prepare and administer the assigned program budget. Ensure that expenditures are compatible with current objectives.
Do you have the following skills and qualifications?
Knowledge of all aspects of publishing with an emphasis on book development and production.
Experienced at strategic planning with a proven ability to successfully develop marketable publishing concepts.
A proven record of meeting deadlines and budgets while maintaining the highest level of quality control.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships, both internal and external.
Ability to analyze trends to determine their longevity and validity as book topics.
Ability to determine the validity of book proposals or unsolicited manuscripts.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in publishing.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
