 Requirements: 
Berghahn Books seeks a Production Editor for its books division.

Working closely with authors, responsibilities for this position include taking manuscripts through production from copyediting to print-ready files, finalizing covers for press, distributing ebook files, and producing new paperback editions, as well as handling other specialized projects as they come up.

Responsibilities include:
• Guiding authors through the production process of their book, including communicating any changes that impact their schedule as well as resolving any production-related queries, concerns, or issues that may arise (communicating with editorial or marketing as and when needed);
• Preparing authors’ submissions for production in coordination with editorial;
• Liaising with freelancers and authors at copyediting and typesetting stages;
• Checking authors’ proof corrections and final checks of files before printing to ensure the highest quality final product;
• Finalizing the cover with an eye to proofreading the copy and making sure everything is correct and consistent with the text;
• Coordinating with editorial and marketing colleagues as needed to ensure publication expectations are met and supporting publicity efforts if required (e.g. supplying proofs for advance promotion activities);
• Preparing and distributing ebook files;
• Organizing the production of new in paperback editions;
• Maintaining database entries/production schedules/publication reports/production costs.

Requirements:
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a small-firm environment.
• Must be well organized with a keen attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and excellent verbal and written skills.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style is essential.
• A minimum of 3-5 years production experience in book publishing is required.
• Familiarity with Mac OS, desktop publishing software, MS Office, and FileMaker Pro desirable.
• Social Sciences/Humanities major preferred.
