Leading book publisher of illustrated trade books in the home, woodworking and quilts/sewing categories seeks a marketing professional to join the group. The marketing manager plans, directs and coordinates marketing and publicity strategies and tactics designed to achieve revenue targets and profitability goals, which support the publishing strategies and goals of the book division. This person will partner with editorial and sales teams, utilizing input from in-house brand leaders to shape marketing efforts of books to the trade. Individual taps into consumer research and competitive data to identify marketing activities and opportunities that drive sales in traditional and online retailers; owns the implementation of marketing plans from ideation through execution; and establishes, monitors, measures and communicates performance of marketing campaigns against goals and applies insights.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

•Develop and execute marketing and publicity strategies and tactics that integrate and leverage digital and print assets and platforms to communicate the best assets of our books and drive purchases (i.e. social media, websites, blogs, in house and outside advertising venues, author assets, etc.).

•Be the point person for internal and external marketing partners. Assist publishing team in cultivating audience development strategies; build and manage the book division social media profiles and presence; produce valuable and engaging content for our digital platforms and blogs. Coordinate authors and third party marketing capabilities.

•Ensure plans are effectively communicated and reviewed with other departments and third parties as necessary. Measure and report sales and consumer behavior results of marketing campaigns. Use insights and data to develop future strategies.

•Under the direction of the publisher, develop and manage marketing and promotion budgets for individual titles and for the book division and ensure effective control of marketing results within budgets.

•Develop as needed, be a consultant to others, and oversee the creation of sales and promotional materials to ensure consistency in style and quality of sales materials and trade advertising, so that our creative output is accurate, effective, timely and reflects our brand attributes.

•Be the primary point of contact for our third-party distribution clients; know the publishing lists and find synergies in marketing; liaise with third party marketing and publicity staff; present third party lists at sales presentations.

•Cultivate relationships in the book trade that will help us market our books and be an active player in the marketplace. Be the outward face of the book program, attending trade shows and sales meetings as needed and representing our lists in the media.

•Work hand-in-hand with sales staff to develop existing channels and open new ones and to execute partnership growth initiatives.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

•3-5 years’ trade book marketing experience, ideally in the house and home category

•Proven ability in social media marketing and digital book marketing

•Proven experience in identifying target audience and channels and in creatively devising and leading marketing campaigns that engage and motivate purchase

•Strong awareness of marketing trends via reading, research, networking, trade shows and direct communication with the marketplace

•Self-driven, collaborative and able to take a hands-on, flexible, creative approach to the job

•Solid writing and communication skills

•Strong quantitative skills and web analytics abilities
