Job Summary:

Assistant will support a Vice President who handles foreign rights for a variety of high-profile clients and is also building her own list of clients; will also read/report on author queries and manuscript submissions. The assistant will join a hardworking and dedicated team, gaining invaluable experience in marketing and sales abroad, client relations, an international perspective on all publishing aspects and literary trends, and an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of foreign and domestic in publishing.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Track and send foreign submissions
- Compose submission letters
- Track incoming manuscripts, galleys, and finished copies
- Track clients’ performance in foreign markets (sales, reviews, etc.)
- Organize trips to Frankfurt, and London for the book fairs
- Maintain the company’s rights guide brochure in preparation for the book fairs
- Develop publicity sheets for upcoming titles in preparation for book fairs and meetings
- Track contracts through their various stages
- Follow-up on payments for foreign contracts
- Identify and correctly allocate outstanding money wires
- Correspond with foreign agents and publishers
- Review and respond to author queries
- Review and evaluate manuscripts submitted for representation
- General administrative duties

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent people and communication skills
- Superior organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of BAITS software a PLUS
- Foreign language skills a PLUS
