 Requirements: 
HarperCollins Christian Publishing is in search of a Acquisitions Editor for their Fiction division. Serves in a leadership role in the acquisition and editorial/product development for Fiction titles.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Acquistions Editor include but are not limited to:

Essential Responsibilities:
1.Actively acquires 15-18 titles per year consistent with publishing strategy and financial goals.
2.Oversees editorial development of books acquired, including the delivery of expert and timely substantive/macro edits and strong author management.
3.Assist the Publisher to ensure front-list product list supports year-over-year growth both in revenue and EBITDA.
4.Creates pitch materials for new projects to gain support from internal stakeholders.
5.Shepherds the titling, packaging, and cataloging process for acquired titles.
6.Negotiates with authors and/or agents in a manner that is fair and within financial benchmarks and develops, nurtures and grows author and agent relationships.
7.Exhibits strong editorial judgment about which authors to acquire and resign.
8.Provides timely communication with current and potential authors and their agents regarding the status of their proposals and/or contracted projects.
9.Meets or beats deadlines to ensure that titles are published on time and on budget.
10.Represents HCCP Fiction persuasively with HCCP and within the broader Christian Fiction community, including at writer’s conferences and industry trade shows as needed.
11.Leads, influences and informally mentors the junior editorial staff.
12.Possesses expertise in cultural, entertainment, and publishing trends.

Qualifications:

Desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:

Knowledge: Expert market knowledge, proven leadership ability, proven succes in acquisitions, proven ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external constituencies. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style is preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ editorial experience with at least 3 years of acquisitions and development experience; creative, analytical, capable of meeting deadlines and following schedules, good interpersonal skills, and competent computer software skills.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, or similar area

Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of Christian publishing industry & marketplace preferred

•Proven editorial skills in shaping excellent written text.
•Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks/priorities.
•Time management skills

•Strong negotiation and public speaking capabilities.

•Able to work with authors to develop excellent content

•Able to work with others in a team environment

•Able to manage and coach creative people and desire to see them thrive
