The Senior Editor/Executive Editor acquires and manages book development projects with a focus on diet, health, wellness, and other prescriptive categories. This professional oversees and analyzes book budgets and has responsibility for achieving assigned sales, profit and return on investment goals. This professional reports to the Vice President, Editorial Director, Life & Style, Grand Central Publishing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Acquire projects from a variety of sources including agents, seasoned authors with a proven track record, as well as new authors
Manage established in-house publishing programs
Develop and maintain productive relationships with authors and agents, as well as internal staff in Managing Editorial, Art, Publicity/Marketing and other departments.
Take on departmental projects/initiatives, as assigned by Vice President, Editorial Director
Represent division at tradeshows and industry events as appropriate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Minimum of 8-10 years of trade book acquiring and editing
Solid knowledge of book publishing processes and functions – Editorial, Managing Editorial, Production, Design, Copyediting, Marketing, Sales, and Publicity, and how they interface
Strong contacts in the publishing industry
Experience developing and managing budgets for book projects; financial results orientation
