Isle of Broken Dreams
May 20, 2014
Author:  Mike Farris
Category:  Fiction: Women's/Romance
Description:  We are representing Mike Farris, author of the historical novel, Isle of Broken Dreams, a woman's story. A brief overview is below.

Hawaii in 1941was a tropical paradise. Not for everyone, though, as told in this honest and historically accurate story of a woman's successful fight for independence. Sadie MacKensie arrives in Honolulu the week before the Pearl Harbor attack. She dreams of becoming an entertainer. But Sadie has been duped by her "benefactors," and finds herself trapped, forced to work as a prostitute in the seamy world of Hotel Street, the red light district in Honolulu, where prostitution was technically illegal but was, in reality, highly-regulated. The novel creates a compelling character as it tells of Sadie's struggle to escape that life. That struggle includes surviving beatings, the murders of her friends, and being tried for murdering her most dangerous enemy.

Mike Farris is an entertainment attorney with the Dallas, Texas, law firm of Vincent Lopez Serafino Jenevein, P.C. He previously collaborated with television journalist Murphy Martin to write Martin's memoir, Front Row Seat: A Veteran Reporter Relives the Four Decades that Reshaped America, and with rodeo cowboy turned actor/director/producer Robert Hinkle to write Hinkle's memoir, Call Me Lucky: A Texan in Hollywood. In the world of fiction, he is the author of the novels Kanaka Blues, a Hawaiian thriller; and Manifest Intent and Rules of Privilege, both legal thrillers. His latest novel, The Bequest, a thriller, was released in late 2013, and Wrongful Termination, a legal thriller, is due to be release shortly. Mike is also an award-winning screenwriter, with two projects currently in development with a Los Angeles-based production company.
