BONE WORLD
Apr. 4, 2014
Author:  Jason Eric Miller
Category:  Children's: Young Adult
Description:  Written by twelve year old Dane MillerHass and his father, novelist J Eric Miller, BONE WORLD is a coming-to-terms story told in a series of letters written from a young survivor of an apocalyptic event to a girl he believes to be alive, too. These letters chronicle his journey from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, where he will collect the bones of his father to bury beside the bones of his mother. In recounting his story along the way, the boy links the worldwide catastrophe to the tragedies of his personal life before the apocalypse: his parents' divorce, difficult relationships at school, the terrible and mysterious disappearance of his elder brother.

Surrounded by bones, rabble and desolation, the hope for a sidekick (maybe more than that if they like each other?) and the aftermath reunion of his parents keeps him going ahead, becoming a model on how we may live in a world where we all will lose all we love, and proving that wisdom often comes from the mouth of babes.

A short, shocking, evocative novel for young readers of all ages, with and original ecological-dystopian perspective, as the protagonist's vegan option will be key in the new life he has to face. The journey accounted for in these Scattered Letters of the (Second to) Last Kid on Earth becomes a beautiful metaphor of the challenges we all face in life, and the need and hope to find love and partnership in whatever we embark on.
