Clabe Taylor is a dissolute, beer-guzzling author of cheap narco-spy novels, who is struggling to break out of the bonds of literary obscurity. When The Ganja Times, a popular national magazine, begins to publish his new serialized novel, Clabe figures he's made the big time. There's only one problem. Whatever Clabe writes about in each new episode comes true shortly after publication, and nobody is amused. The CIA, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, and the most powerful drug cartel in Mexico want answers.
Clabe is forced to go on the lam. He flees cross-country in an old Chevy pickup, accompanied by his best friend Goose, a pot-smoking Mexican ex-con, and Rigo, a flatulent Blue Heeler cow dog. Reeling from one misadventure to another, Clabe continues to write, submitting episodes of his serialized novel by email. When Clabe writes about a horrifying but fictional conspiracy between the Mexican drug cartel and the Russians with CIA collusion, it all comes to pass, and the world teeters on the edge of financial destruction.
A major television news network picks up on the story, and broadcasts a series of clandestine interviews with Clabe that electrifies the country. Clabe's enemies are relentless, though, and soon run him to ground. A mind-boggling series of abductions and rescues eventually leads to a kangaroo court trial in Guantanamo, Cuba where Clabe faces lethal injection unless the come-to-life heroes from his own novels can pull off the rescue mission of their lives.
