Pepin, Minnesota—a tiny town on the banks of the Mississippi River—boasts a famous citizen or two, most notably, Ida May Turnbull, the (long-dead) author of a several children's books that owe much of their current fame to Little Girl, Big River, a television show based loosely on her books. Hundreds of fans are about to descend on Pepin for a convention. Caught in the crosshairs of the Little Girl conventioneers are Leigh Burton, a disgraced journalist who is assisting an aged former vice-president of the U.S. with his memoirs while trying to keep her past under wraps, Marti Lanier, the president of the Ida May Turnbull Society who's knee-deep in a turf war with the president of a rival fan club, and Roberta Garibaldi, a best-selling novelist with a secret. | ||||

Marsha Qualey is the author of several young adult novels. Her books have appeared on numerous best-of-the-year lists, including ALA Quick Picks and Best Books for Young Adults, IRA Young Adults' Choices, New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age, and School Library Journal's Best Books of the Year. She has won two Minnesota Book Awards and her 1997 novel, Thin Ice, was nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. Her books are frequently included on state, school district, and library reader's choice lists. She is on the faculty of Hamline University's MFA in Writing for Children program. | ||||
