CURRENT BOOK PROPOSAL:

THE GUTSY BOOK FOR WOMEN, nonfiction, how-to book. Now being shopped to publishers.
THE GUTSY BOOK FOR WOMEN offers real and commonsense how-to advice with an irresistible message of sisterly empowerment for women ages 18 to 88. Loosely inspired by The Dangerous Book for Boys, GUTSY alternatively informs, inspires, reassures, and entertains. Covering a broad range of important life skills and common life experiences, GUTSY offers an easy-to-read format sensitive to contemporary time pressures, served up by a uniquely qualified and appealing author whom the target market will embrace. In short: GUTSY is nothing less than a guidebook for women to take control and become the heroines of their lives.

PRIOR BOOKS:

1. TOO MANY BOSSES, TOO FEW LEADERS, Research collaborator on this book providing leadership insights, working with Rajeev Peshawaria, CEO of the International Centre for Leadership in Finance and former Chief Learning Officer for Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Release in Spring of 2011.

2. AMAZING EARTH, Nonfiction book celebrating 25 years of the Discovery Channel. Offered a publishing contract by Langenscheidt in fall 2009.

3. THE K2 RISK PARADOX, nonfiction business book co-authored with the top American Himalayan mountain climber, Carlos Buhler. Premise: The lessons of assessing and managing risk that are learned in the unforgiving environment of the world's highest peaks can be applied to understanding and managing risk in the unforgiving environment of management. Status: Offered a publishing contract in summer 2009

4. INTO THE UNKNOWN (THE REMARKABLE LIFE OF HANS KRAUS), bio of a great American rock climber and a great, unsung medical pioneer. Premise: Combines adventure with an American presidential medical mystery. A daring rock climber, Hans Kraus was a doctor in the 1950s who was first to link exercise and fitness with mental and physical health, and who later became President Kennedy's secret White House back doctor. The book reveals for the first time the full story of Kennedy's back. (Interview tapes are archived in the Kennedy Presidential Library.)

Sales: Self-published so author retains all rights for an eventual sale to a mainstream publisher. Entirely through her own marketing efforts, Susan sold 3,000 copies.

Platform : Leveraging marketing abilities from her corporate career, Susan organized her own media events. Results include:

• New York Times interview and a Boston Globe front page feature.
• Cover blurb from TV journalist, Mike Wallace.
• Video interview for The New York Times, which ran on JetBlue inflight media service.
• Many feature articles in regional newspapers.
• TV talkshow appearances. Reflecting Susan's strong media presence, she was typically invited back on the spot for future appearances. Sponsored by the leading retailer, Patagonia, for a national book tour. (See more below.)
