Cynthia Polansky defies convention as a cross-genre writer whose refusal to settle for the ordinary translates into books that are food for thought. Her distinctive writing satisfies readers hungry for a change from the ubiquitous romances and mysteries. The award-winning author of two published novels and (under the name Cynthia P. Gallagher) four nonfiction dog-breed books, she has served on the board of the Maryland Writers Association, and is a member of the Women's National Book Association and the Dog Writers Association of America. During the academic year, Cynthia is a Writing Center tutor at the U.S. Naval Academy where she wages war on incorrect grammar, one midshipman at a time.

THE HUMAN AROMA: A Whiff of Man Through the Ages by Cynthia P. Gallagher
In a conversational tone similar to the "YOU" series by Drs. Mehmet Oz and Michael Roizen, this sociological take on the awkward topic of human body odor explores its origins, purposes, and perceptions around the world. AROMA covers a wide scope of all things humanly smelly, from the sophomoric (do you really have to ask?) to the serious (trimethylaminuria, a baffling medical condition also called Fish Odor Syndrome. Folklore factoids are sprinkled throughout, such as the "Love Ball" of Renaissance Europe, and why June became a traditional month for weddings.
