Assistant Editor of Arabic Literature

 Requirements: 
The incumbent will work with the Editorial Director of the Library of Arabic Literature series. As assistant editor, responsibilities will include: liaising with editor-translators, copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, other freelancers, the Digital Production Manager, and paperback designer; assisting with review of translations; maintaining spreadsheets and production schedules; drafting catalog and jacket copy; administering payments process for consultants and vendors and completing other editorial duties as needed; paperback cover image research; maintaining LAL website and blog; drafting and producing communications; and arranging special events on behalf of LAL.

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, Middle East Studies, or related field

Preferred Education:
M.A. degree in a field related to LAL's publishing focus.

Required Experience:
2 years' publishing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Experience working for a university press. Familiarity with written Arabic preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organization, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills. Advanced knowledge of MS Word and basic spreadsheet applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiarity with XML
