The University of Pittsburgh Press seeks a creative, experienced, and innovative individual to fill the position of Marketing Director. This is a senior executive who reports to the Director of the Press; is responsible for the promotion, distribution, and sales of Press books in print and digital formats; works with other senior managers to develop overall Press policies and strategic goals; establishes and implements marketing plans and sales policies; and manages a marketing department with a staff of three.
The University of Pittsburgh Press is a scholarly publisher with distinguished books in several academic fields and in poetry and short fiction, as well as books about Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania for general readers, scholars, and students. A founding member of the AAUP, the Press was established in 1936. In its efforts to acquire the best available scholarship, the Press has focused its scholarly titles in selected academic areas: history, international studies, Latin American studies, Russian and East European studies, environmental history, composition and literacy studies, history of the built environment, urban studies, and history and philosophy of science. In addition, the Press has a close collaborative relationship with the Hebrew Union College Press to publish books in Jewish studies. Our books about Pittsburgh and the region include history, art, photography, biography, and guidebooks. The Press also publishes the renowned Pitt Poetry Series, home to the work of many of America’s greatest poets, as well as the winners of the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize, the Donald Hall Award Series in Poetry, and the Drue Heinz Literature Prize in short fiction.

At least ten years of experience in scholarly publishing is required, along with management experience and a proven track record of increasing professional expertise in every aspect of scholarly book marketing. Bachelor’s degree required.
