Marketing Manager, Journals Circulation
•Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
•Minimum of 7 years in marketing or sales field, preferably in a journals publishing environment.
•Background in direct response and analysis, market research techniques and analysis, and management of outside market research suppliers.
•Knowledge of/experience with circulation auditing processes (BPA and postal).
•Experience in hiring, training, and supervising subordinates.
•Excellent written and oral communications are critical.
•Responsible for directly managing the creation, management, and execution of comprehensive strategic marketing and promotion plans for the APA Journals product line in order to help maximize product sales. Such plans delineate for the journals product line both strategic and promotional strategies, and include promotional expenditures by media channel, product positioning, competition, target markets, and market trends; they may also include marketing launch plans for new products.
•Manages a marketing budget, including preparing and justifying on an annual basis, allocating budgeted monies, identifying cost-effective approaches, and regularly tracking and reporting on expenses for and results of all marketing activities. Maintains budget records and generates budget-related reports.
•Responsible for all internal and external marketing communications relating to the journals product line to increase paid circulation (renewal and acquisition) and readership awareness to member individual, nonmember individual, and institutional markets as well as to support journal editorial needs (via calls for papers, etc.). Evaluate and report regularly on response rates and revenue generated relative to budget monies expended.
•Routinely provides product information to as well as communicates and coordinates marketing activities with subscription agents that sell APA journal products in the institutional market.
•Manages market research (focus groups, etc.) and analysis of research data, and other such activities to inform product development, positioning, and sales.
•Supervises one direct report.
•Occasional travel to conferences and vendor offices on an as-needed basis.
