The Senior Editor is responsible for management, development, and acquisition of society-owned and Springer-owned journals in the biomedicine area. The Senior Editor will lead initiatives to improve the editorial quality and the profitability of existing titles and respond to RFP�s as necessary to acquire journals into the portfolio. He/She is responsible for the preparation of business plans and strategies aimed at growing the value and positioning of the journal portfolio. Specific responsibilities of the Senior Editor include:
� Maintain program of high value Society- and Springer-owned journals, requiring in-depth knowledge of publishing practices, excellent communication skills and effective management of Society partner relationships.
� Approximately 25% 35% travel as well as strong initiative and independent functioning.
� Prepare and executes publishing contracts in regard to US product.
� Maintain and develop a circle of reviewers and advisors and evaluates their judgments.
� Maintain communication with US and European editorial counterparts about specific immediate questions as well as long term strategy questions. Work with various branches in coordination of the international program.
� Discuss, assume and propose financial and budgetary plans for program. Ensure that financial reports, status reports, budget forecasts, etc., can be made on the basis of readily available material.
� Monitor staffing requirements and trains and develops staff.
� Perform related duties as required.
� College degree with experience as an editor managing a sizeable portfolio of journals, Society partners, and preferably in the STM environment.
� Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
� Must be willing and able to travel, 25%-35%.
